Healthy Minds offers a variety of trainings for education and mental health professionals, parents, and related service providers. Please CONTACT US for more information on any of our current training offerings or to schedule a training for your school or organization.
- Understanding the IEP Document
This personalized 2-hour interactive training unveils the meaning of each section of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) document and ensures parents understand this essential and important guide to their child’s special education services.
- Beyond SMART Goals
Learn how to write IEP goals that are not only appropriate and measurable but also reasonable and logical. Having appropriate, well written goals is a defining feature of a solid, supportive IEP that allows you to accurately and effectively measure student progress. This 3-hour training incorporates both presentation and practice and is appropriate for educators, parents, service providers, and anyone participating in IEP goal creation.
- FASD and the IEP
Nearly 1 in 20 students has been prenatally exposed to alcohol. Students with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) are frequently mislabeled and given interventions that exacerbate, rather than alleviate, their challenges. This training will discuss the brain-based nature of this disability, which traditional interventions to avoid (and why), and how to create an IEP that is supportive and effective. This 2-hour training is appropriate for anyone who participates in IEP development.
- Educational Advocacy: The Role of the Mental Health Professional
This is an 8-hour training provided at your agency, providing instruction in baseline educational advocacy, the basics of navigating the special education system, ethical considerations when advocating in schools, and consideration of learning disabilities when choosing or applying therapeutic interventions. We will work with your agency to provide continuing education units for your staff. This training is designed for mental health professionals, Full Service Partnership (FSP), and Wraparound providers who attend IEPs with their clients.
